Lia Melo studies at the Vila Real Regional Music Conservatory with Alice Neves, having been awarded as the best string player and having received two commendations from the City Council. Through recognition in various Competitions (1st prizes: 9th Paços Premium National Competition 2015, Portugal; “5th Contest City of Vigo de Violin, Viola and Cello 2016”, Spain; New York Golden Classic Music Awards, 2017 International Competition, United States of America; 2nd Ilda Moura Award Competition, Portugal; eMuse Music Competition, Greece; National String Award Competition Vasco Barbosa, Portugal; II Rising Stars Grand Prix 2017 - International Music Competition Berlin, Germany; International Music Competition Salzburg - Grand Prize Virtuoso, Austria; and a 2nd prize in the London Grand Prize Virtuoso 2016, England) she was invited to perform, as a solist, among others, at the Lisbon Belém Cultural Centre, Portugal; “Teatro Afundación” de Vigo, Spain; Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall), New York, U.S.A; Berlin Kammermusiksaal Philharmonie, Germany; Wiener Saal, Mozarteum, Salzburg, Austria; Royal Albert Hall (Elgar Room), London, U.K; Athens Byzantine Museum, Greece and Berlin Konzerthaus, Germany. She has held the post of Principal Viola for National Ensemble Philharmonic Orchestra and at the 1st Portuguese-German Youth Orchestra Meeting and played for Youth Portuguese Orchestra (JOP); Atlantic Coast Orchestra. As a soloist Lia Melo has performed with Camerata Atlântica and with Vigo Superior Conservatory Orchestra (Spain). As a chamber musician Lia Melo has performed extensively with the Vila Real String Quartet and the Vila Real String Trio (founding member of both) with multiple concerts, and awards, in Portugal and Spain.
